First Kings of Europe Book Published!

First Kings book cover

Attila and Bill are thrilled to announce that first book associated with the First Kings of Europe project arrived on the shelves last week. Entitled First Kings of Europe: From Farmers to Rulers in Prehistoric Southeastern Europe, the edited volume was published by the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA (https://ioa.ucla.edu/press/firstkingsofeurope). The book, which is co-edited by Bill and Attila, contains ten chapters that address the themes that will be explored in the First Kings of Europe exhibition, which will open at the Field Museum next March. A smaller version of the exhibition is currently on display at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World in New York under the title Ritual and Memory: The Ancient Balkans and Beyond (https://isaw.nyu.edu/exhibitions/ritual-and-memory). This book of essays will be accompanied by a formal exhibition catalog (http://www.ioa.ucla.edu/first-kings-catalog), which also will be published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA, and a souvenir book, which will be published in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of History.
